Recently Outbackgridiron.com met up with Adam Gotsis, the Victorian offensive and defensive lineman who played for the Junior and Senior Outback.
Outbackgridiron.com: How much longer before you leave Australia to go to the USA?
Adam Gotsis: Leaving on Tuesday 31st of July.
Outbackgridiron.com: How do you feel at the moment?
Adam Gotsis: Feeling so excited and nervous, just want to get over there and get into it.
Outbackgridiron.com: When does camp start?
Adam Gotsis: Camp starts on the 2nd August.
Outbackgridiron.com: What have you done to prepare for your college football adventure?
Adam Gotsis: I have been lifting around 4 days a week. I also had 2 sessions a week on the track with Coach Leijten so heaps of running and football conditioning just getting my body fit and ready to go. I’ve probably been going at it since January this year so just been working really hard. Before I started working individually with Coach Leijten I thought that I was a well rounded athlete but I am very happy that I was able to work with him, Coach Leijten has really made a difference in my preparation!
Outbackgridiron.com: How long have you been working towards going to college?
Adam Gotsis: Probably be working for a good 2 years. I have been working very hard to make myself a better athlete. Working on strength, speed, change of direction and general
defensive line drills.
Outbackgridiron.com: What are you looking forward to the most going to play college football?
Adam Gotsis: The atmosphere! I reckon it will just be insane playing in front off 50,000+ fans going
Outbackgridiron.com: What are you not looking forward to?
Adam Gotsis: Does the conditioning count? Coach Leijten has worked me really hard in that areaso I have a love/hate relationship with it. Nah can’t really say I’m not looking forward to anything because this is a great opportunity and I just need to make the most of it.
Outbackgridiron.com: What will you be studying?
Adam Gotsis: I’ll be studying Business management and administration.
Outbackgridiron.com: What are you first year’s goals?
Adam Gotsis: First year goal is to perform to the best of my abilities whether it be through a red
shirt year or on the roster, I just want to give it my best shot and really earn the
respect of all my teammates and coaches.
Outbackgridiron.com: What position will you be playing?
Adam Gotsis: I’ll be playing defensive tackle, but might put my hand up for long snapper and punter
Outbackgridiron.com: Do you know how many DL are coming in?
Adam Gotsis: I think there are about 5 DL coming in, and I think they had about 3 or 4 returners.
Outbackgridiron.com: What will you miss the most while you are in Georgia?
Adam Gotsis: Definitely miss the family and friends the most, but I know that they are cheering me
on so I reckon I’ll be alright.
